The PKCS #11 standard defines a platform-independent API to cryptographic tokens, such as hardware security modules (HSM) and smart cards, and names the API itself 'Cryptoki' (from 'cryptographic token interface' and pronounced as 'crypto-key' - but 'PKCS #11' is often used to refer to the API as well as the standard that defines it).

When you obtain a KCA certificate with the Kerberized Certificate Authority Provider for NetworkIdentity Manager, it places the certificate in the Windows 'My'Certificate Store, which is the default location for storing personalcertificates. Applications that make use of the Windows certificatestore will be able to immediately use the certificate. However, theMozilla family of products don't use the Windows certificate store bydefault.

The KCA provider is bundled with a PKCS #11 module for Mozillaproducts that exposes the Windows certificate store. This allowsMozilla products to use these certificates transparently. At thecurrent time, this module needs to be manually added to each Mozillaapplication that you would like to use with KCA certificates. Thispage provides information for installing the module for various Mozilla products.

1. Select Tools ->Options.. from the menu bar to access the Optionsdialog.

2. Select the Advanced icon to access theadvanced options pane. (pictured below).

3. Select the Encryption tab.

4. Select the Security Devices button toaccess the security device manager (pictured below).

5. Select the Load button to load a newPKCS #11 device.

6. Enter the details for the new PKCS #11 device as shown below.For the module filename, select kpkcs11.dllfrom the directory that you installed the KCA provider to. By default,this is in the %PROGRAMFILES%Secure EndpointsKCAPlugin directory.
